Category description
Cylinder hydraulic lock – this is a controlled check valve that acts as an element of the hydraulic line. It is located, as a rule, between the hydraulic distributor and the hydraulic cylinder. It is used to ensure that, in the presence of control, the working fluid is passed in two directions, and in its absence – in one.
What is a hydraulic lock for?
The purpose of the valve is as follows:
- Closing fluid under pressure in some sections of the hose. This is necessary in order to hold the hydraulic cylinder in the desired position.
- Crash recovery in case of violation of the integrity of the system. If the tightness of the hydraulic line is not observed, the pressure in the system drops sharply, and the hydraulic lock prevents complete depressurization.
- Prevention of movement of mechanisms in the event of a decrease in pressure. For this purpose, a hydraulic lock is installed at the outlet of cylindrical cavities.
- Preventing the movement of the output links of the line, which are caused by leaks.
Thus, the hydraulic cylinder lock serves to ensure the safety of the system and its stable operation.
The principle of operation of hydraulic locks and their types
In the absence of control signals, the hydraulic lock begins to function on the principle of a check valve: oil is supplied only in one direction through the entire device. When the control signal is resumed, the hydraulic actuator passes the working fluid in both directions.
Based on the number of body valves, one-way and two-way locks are distinguished.
The one-sided action hydraulic lock structurally consists of the following elements:
- saddle;
- locking element – cone or ball;
- spring;
- piston.
It is mainly used on aerial platforms and loaders where there is no need to completely close the lowering line. The unit locks the hydraulic line receiving the load when the distributor is in the neutral position.
As part of a double-acting hydraulic lock:
- 2 shut-off and control balls;
- 1 control element;
- 2 springs.
This type of lock is universal, as it can lock the hydraulic line for both lifting and lowering. Its purpose – ensuring a stationary state in the neutral position of the distributor, when liquid pressure on the cylinder occurs from both directions.
Areas of application of hydraulic locks
This hose element is applicable in the following industries:
- Industrial production, where fixation of the hydraulic cylinder in a certain position is required. These can be numerically controlled machines to hold the position of the desktop or tool.
- Agricultural and construction machinery. The hydraulic lock blocks the hydraulic cylinder in the desired position, which prevents accidental lowering or lifting of the working body.
- Automotive engineering. Hydraulic locks are used in systems for lifting and lowering truck bodies.
- Power engineer. Fixing hydraulic cylinders in hydro turbines or hydro power plants allows you to control hydro units, ensuring reliable and stable operation.
- Repair and maintenance. The lock is necessary for the convenience and safety of repairing hydraulic cylinders.
