Category description
Hydraulic throttle – type of hydraulic control device, the main function of which is to generate additional resistance to the flow of working fluids. Thanks to him, the flow rate of hydraulic fluid varies due to flow movement through the hole – regulated or unregulated. A throttle with a check valve allows you to effectively control the speed of movement of the working body.
Design and types of hydraulic throttle
The hydraulic apparatus includes a moving cone-shaped element. Its movement regulates not only the cross-sectional area, but also the oil flow, changing the pressure inside the system. The deeper the element goes, the smaller the flow area, and vice versa.
Design features make it possible to divide hydraulic throttles into the following types:
- Slotted. Used on large hydraulic motors. The through hole is closed with a hollow plug with a slot for flow. The cross-sectional area changes with the rotation of the plug, the viscosity of the flow does not affect the throughput. However, slotted hydraulic throttles are more prone to contamination.
- Needle. They have cone-shaped shut-off and control elements, a short throttling opening and a small washed surface. As with slotted chokes, the characteristics of needle chokes do not depend on the viscosity or temperature of the fluid.
- With longitudinal groove. They include a locking and regulating element made at an angle and a triangular/rectangular groove. The index of local resistance is determined by the relative position of the locking element itself and the hole in the sleeve. This type is used in low power systems due to the narrow gap and small liquid contact area.
Based on the features of the flow section, the hydraulic throttle can be adjustable, if it is customizable, and constant, unregulated – if not customizable. Their main difference – in the ability to forcefully adjust the size of the passage section.
Thanks to such a hydraulic unit, there is a pressure drop in the path of the hydraulic fluid. This leads to a discharge through the check valve of a certain amount of liquid into a special compartment or drain line.
