The gear pump is used in a variety of hydraulic systems due to its simple design, significant service life and low cost. The gear pump is capable of supplying the working liquids up to 300 l/min, and work at pressures up to 250 bar.

Gear pumps: classification
The first sign by which the gear pumps can be grouped is the displacement and productivity. Entry into a particular group depends on the specific manufacturer. At the moment, there are 5 groups:
- group 0: working volume - 0.25-2.3 cm3;
- group 1: working volume - 1-9.8 cm3;
- group 2: working volume - 4.5-36 cm3;
- group 3: working volume - 20-87 cm3;

Another important classification feature by which one can distinguish gear hydraulic pumps is the principle of operation. There are two groups:
- internal gear pumps: the operation is based on the rotation of the auxiliary gear, which presses against the rotor teeth (main gear). The working fluid is pushed out through the crescent-shaped element;
- external gear pumps: work is done by a pair of equivalent gears. Liquid is pushed between their teeth around the perimeter of the pump chamber.
